Hunt Would Love to See McGoldrick Play for Ireland - Ipswich Town News

Winger Stephen Hunt says he’d love to see his Town team-mate David McGoldrick play for the Republic of Ireland. Hunt, 32, still hopes to add to his own total of 39 caps.

"He is definitely something different to what Ireland have right now,” Hunt said of the Blues’ 15-goal top scorer.

"We have strikers who are good at holding the ball up and he has all that plus he is good at coming into the spaces and scores goals. He would do really well for us and I would love to see him in the Ireland squad.

"Having known him for three months or so now, I know he has the right attitude and the commitment to play for Ireland.

"He has an all-round game, he is feeling loved here and hopefully he will continue to do well here until the end of the season and we will see where that takes him.”

The former Reading, Hull and Wolves man says there was little doubt that McGoldrick would take Saturday’s penalty, despite having seen his last two saved.

"David has been banging them in,” he continued. "The gaffer was keen to keep him on penalties after he had missed a couple and he certainly put that one away.

"He did a good job for us again. He feels loved here, he is enjoying himself and it helps now that the transfer window is shut as he can focus on himself and crack on.”

Overall, Hunt felt the Blues were worthy of the three points for their display after the break: "We picked it up second half, showed a bit more enthusiasm and deserved the win in the end. Mick gave us a talking to at half-time, not in an angry way but in a constructive way.

"I was playing in a different position as we went three in midfield but I managed to get on the ball plenty enough.

"We won three in a row before we had a poor run, now we are unbeaten in three again so we are starting on another run.

"If we do then we will be right on the heels of the likes of Reading. It is sometimes better to be just outside the top six as there is no pressure.”

Hunt says he’s enjoying life at Town and working with Mick McCarthy, who was previously his boss at Molineux: "Perhaps he didn’t always get the best out of me at Wolves, maybe that was down to me.

"But whatever, I feel really settled here and I’m enjoying it and feel I’m playing well. Maybe it is something to do with wearing a blue jersey, which I always feel comfortable in.”
