Town Confirm Green Loan Signing - Ipswich Town News
Town have confirmed the signing of Leeds United midfielder Paul Green on a 93-day loan. Yesterday evening, TWTD revealed that the Blues were close to completing a deal to sign the 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international.
Also as reported, the club say Green will be available for today’s game if the paperwork goes through before the noon deadline, and if that’s the case he will be in the squad at Barnsley.
Yesterday afternoon, TWTD revealed the Blues had renewed their interest in Green, having pulled out of a deal on the final day of the January transfer window with the Whites wanting Town to pay too great a proportion of his wages.
Speaking last Saturday, the Blues manager didn’t rule out making a new attempt to sign Green on a 93-day emergency loan, but said he would also look at other options.
Former Town man Owen Garvan was amongst those eyed, although his ongoing patellar tendinitis may have meant that move was viewed as too risky, while an agreement regarding wages may again have been difficult.
Green, who will wear the number 16 shirt, was previously linked with the Blues during Paul Jewell’s time as boss, the former Town manager having signed him during his spell at Derby.
The Pontefract-born midfielder started his career with Doncaster Rovers, joined Derby on a free transfer in the summer of 2008 and then moved on to Leeds in June 2012, signing a two-year deal. He has been capped 20 times by Ireland, scoring once.
The 5ft 9in tall Green has made 42 starts and four sub appearances during his time with Leeds, scoring four goals, one in last season's 2-0 defeat of the Blues at Elland Road.
Green hasn’t played a first team game for the Whites since October, having suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty in November but returned to training in January.
