Town Set to Sign Palace Midfielder - Ipswich Town News

Town are reportedly set to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams on loan. The 20-year-old Wales international impressed and scored the first goal for the Eagles’ U21s in Monday’s 2-1 victory over their Blues counterparts at Portman Road.

According to the South London Press Town have fought off competition from Charlton — who were represented at Monday’s game — to land Williams.

Born in Kent, 5ft 6in tall Williams came through the youth system at Selhurst Park and made his senior debut in August 2011.

Since then he has gone on to make 27 starts and 37 sub appearances, scoring one goal, but has not started a Premier League game since the Eagles' promotion last summer. In September he suffered an ankle injury which sidelined him for two months.

Highly-rated Williams, who recently signed a new contract with Palace until the summer of 2018, was a constant threat on the left of midfield on Monday and can also operate in the centre and on the right.

Qualifying via his father, Williams has won four full Wales caps in addition to having played at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Meanwhile, former Blue Connor Wickham has joined Leeds on loan from Sunderland.
