Top scorer David McGoldrick says he's targeting a return from injury before the end of the season. The 26-year-old suffered a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee late on during the game against Blackpool last month.
According to initial estimates the former Nottingham Forest man would face 10 weeks on the sidelines, while manager Mick McCarthy subsequently suggested his absence would be nearer the 12-week mark, all but ruling him out of any further action this season.
However, McGoldrick, who has scored 16 times during 2013/14, told Ipswich Player that he is determined to be back before the end of the campaign to assist in Town’s challenge for a place in the top six: "People have said that I’m pretty much ruled out for the season now, but I see that as a challenge to get back before then.
"I want to come back before the season ends and I want to play my part. I’m desperate for the boys to stay in and around those play-off places and that will drive me on to get back even more.
"I’ll be doing as much as I can to get back, whether that be doing double rehab sessions every day or whatever it takes, I just want to get back and help the lads out.
"They might not need me, as we’ve still got four great strikers at the club. But I’m desperate to get back and help out with the play-off push.”
