Henshall Doesn't Look Out of Place - Ipswich Town News

Boss Mick McCarthy says recent loan signing Alex Henshall hasn’t looked out of place while training with the Blues first-team squad. The Manchester City left winger, who played for the U21s in their 3-0 defeat at Bristol City yesterday, is with the Blues until the end of the season on what’s effectively an extended trial.

"He’s a talented young player, he went to Manchester City for quite a few quid as a youngster,” McCarthy said. "He’s left-footed, very, very quick. He’s a good footballer, he understands the game, watching him.

"He’s trained with the first team and he certainly doesn’t look out of place. He’s one for us to look at and there’s every chance he’ll be involved [in the first team before the end of the season].”

Swindon-born Henshall, who is out of contract in the summer, was a youth player with his hometown club but moved to City when 16 in the summer of 2010 having been on the Robins’ first-team bench twice. A number of other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, had also shown interest.

The 5ft 10 in tall England U16 and U17 international spent time on loan at Chesterfield making one start and six sub appearances last season and made another league start, in which he scored his first senior goal, and another appearance from the bench while on loan at Bristol Rovers earlier in this campaign.
