Berra Nominated for Player of the Month - Ipswich Town News

Town centre-half Christophe Berra has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for March.

The Scotland international is up against Watford’s Troy Deeney, Simon Francis of Bournemouth and QPR’s Ravel Morrison for the gong, with the winner announced on Friday morning.

Manager Mick McCarthy has regularly praised Berra, who joined the Blues on a free transfer following his release by Wolves last summer.

"If you start looking around for players of the season, he’s got to be up there,” McCarthy said after the 29-year-old scored in the 1-0 win at Yeovil. "He’s been magnificent. He’s a proper centre-half, Christophe.”

In addition to his consistently solid defensive displays, his two goals during March - the other was the last-gasp winner against Derby - took Berra's total for the campaign on to five, equal with his central defensive partner Tommy Smith.

Town striker David McGoldrick previously won September’s Championship Player of the Month award.
