Boss Mick McCarthy says there could be Premier League interest in a number of his players during the summer. Top scorer David McGoldrick, who could return to action following his knee ligament injury before the end of the campaign, and Aaron Cresswell have both been linked with top flight clubs this season.
Asked whether he thought 16-goal frontman McGoldrick might be targeted by Premier League clubs in the summer, McCarthy said: "Maybe, I don’t know. I suppose we’re at that time, Cressy, there’ll be a few of them.
"I think we’ve had some good performances from players. I don’t know, I’ll find out. If the phone rings, if whoever it is has their name in my phone I might ignore it!”
McGoldrick, who was interesting Crystal Palace during the January transfer window, signed a two-year-old contract last summer having been released by Nottingham Forest, but it’s understood that that deal also included an option for a further season, although McCarthy is remaining tight-lipped regarding the precise nature of his star striker’s terms.
"He’s got more than a year to run, but his contract details are personal and for me to know and not you!” he added. "He’s just trying to get himself fit at the moment, that’s all.”
Cresswell has regularly been eyed by Premier League scouts including those from Southampton, West Brom, Fulham and Hull City this season, while Aston Villa are long time admirers. The former Tranmere left-back is contracted until the summer of 2017.
Player of the Year favourite Christophe Berra and his central defensive partner Tommy Smith are amongst the other members of McCarthy's side who may attract interest.
