Town defender Aaron Cresswell has reflected on the midweek win at Huddersfield and its importance to the play-off picture.
Cresswell, 24, said: "It was a massive win, especially after we had lost at Blackburn in our previous game. So it’s two away games and three points, which is not really the end of the world, but it was very important that we won.
"In the first half we could have been 4-0 or 5-0 up but going into half-time 2-0 up, anyone will take that in any game. We saw the game out in the second half and it was a very professional win.
"I think we really had to win it. At this stage of the season, if we hadn’t won we would be five points off with five games to go, which makes it unlikely that you are going to make it. There’s still hope as things stand and I think it was vital that we won.”
Now Cresswell & Co, who have closed the gap on sixth-placed Reading to two points and are level with rivals Brighton and Bournemouth, go in search of another victory when relegation-threatened Doncaster visit Portman Road on Saturday.
The left-back, who has confirmed his fitness after having to withdraw just an hour into the Huddersfield game with a groin injury, has also reassured supporters that Town are very focused going into the last five games of the campaign.
He added: "When it’s this stage of the season, if you’ve got nothing to play for — like Huddersfield the other night — it’s difficult to get the tempo going. But when we’ve got something to play for — and something as big as making the play-offs and potentially getting into the Premiership — it’s massive.
"It can go one way or the other. Look at Leicester — no one would have predicted Brighton beating them 4-1 at Leicester. Sometimes there’s no pressure on you so it’s an easy game or it can go the other way where none of them really want to play the game. It’s about whatever team turns up on the day can win the game.”
Meanwhile, on-loan striker Jack Marriott played the first 69 minutes as Woking lost 3-0 at home to Cambridge United in the Skrill Premier last night.
