McGoldrick Undergoes Op as Marriott Recalled - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that striker David McGoldrick will undergo a cartilage operation today and now has been ruled out for the season. McCarthy has also announced that he has recalled Jack Marriott from his loan spell at Skrill Premier Woking.

Blues 16-goal top scorer McGoldrick was closing in on a return from the knee ligament injury he picked up in February but suffered the new problem in training this week.

"He’s having an operation today on his cartilage, he’s damaged his cartilage this week,” the Town manager said.

"We’ll now just get him ready for the start of the season. It’s a shame because he had worked ever so hard, he’d been a fabulous, fabulous professional in how he’s rehabbed himself and his cartilage has just taken a hit unfortunately.”

McCarthy added: "I can’t do anything, that’s the way it is. I feel sorrier for him than for me, I wasn’t hanging out that if we got in the play-offs Didz would be fit because I never even thought he would be.

"So the fact that he might have been, well great, but we’re not in the play-offs yet anyway. Its just a shame for him because he’s going to have to get back down to it, it’s just a knockback. But he’ll be all right, he’ll be all right for the start of the season.”

The Blues boss says he has activated Marriott’s 24-hour recall clause and that he will be back at the club tomorrow.

Marriott, 19, scored 13 goals in 23 starts and one sub appearance across two spells with the Cards.
