More Transfer Details Emerge - Ipswich Town News

It has emerged this afternoon that Ipswich's offer to Huddersfield for Marcus Stewart was for £1.5 million and not the £2 million plus that was reported yesterday. Huddersfield expressed an interest in Richard Naylor as part of the deal a suggestion which George Burley wasn't interested in. Huddersfield have turned down the offer but have said the ball is in ITFC's court and another offer seems likely. David Sheepshanks has been having conversations with his Huddersfield counterpart Ian Ayre about the proposed move. Huddersfield are known to want to trim their wage bill, which perhaps explains their on the surface strange desire to sell Stewart. Huddersfield fans are not thought to be pleased about the situation.

George Burley says that any deal is unlikely to go through before the weekend and therefore that Naylor and Stewart will line up for their respective clubs on Saturday. Huddersfield manager Steve Bruce said of Stewart: "I shall be having a word with Marcus Stewart about the situation today and I hope this doesn't unsettle him. He is a key man in my team and will be in the starting line-up at Crystal Palace on Saturday. This is how it stands at the moment and we'll have to wait and see if there are any further developments."

George Burley said: "We have a bid in and if the situation is not resolved with that then we will have to look elsewhere. We already have good players here and the team are undefeated in 13 league games."

Meanwhile away from the world of transfer specualtion the reserves have continued their amazing unbeaten run with a 4-4 draw with Cambridge United at Portmna Road yesterday afternoon. The reserves are yet to lose this season and must be favourites to win the Combination League. The Town scoreres were Richard Logan (2), Wayne Brown and Neil Midgley.
