Town Away at Crawley - Ipswich Town News

Town will play League One Crawley away in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The sides have not previously faced one another in a competitive game, although the Blues played pre-season friendlies at the Broadfield Stadium in July 2007, when they won 5-1, and last summer when the game ended 2-1 to the Blues with Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick (pen) on the scoresheet.

The Crawley squad currently includes former Blue Andy Drury and one-time Town academy midfielder Josh Simpson, while ex-striker Billy Clarke was released at the end of 2013/14.

The tie will be played in the week commencing August 11th and must be concluded on the night. Last year, Town lost 2-0 away at Stevenage at the first round stage of the competition.

The draw was seeded on the basis of last season’s final league positions and then split on a north and south basis.

Relegated former Premier League sides Norwich City and Fulham are not involved at the first round stage but Cardiff City, who finished bottom of the table, were amongst the seeded southern clubs.

The 2014/15 Championship fixtures will be announced at 9am tomorrow when as usual they will be available on TWTD.
