Morrison Set to Stay With Charlton - Ipswich Town News

Charlton defender Michael Morrison, linked with the Blues on Friday, is set to sign a new two-year contract with the Addicks this week, according to this morning’s Sunday People.

Haverhill-born centre-half Morrison, 26, was reportedly a target of Town, Wigan and Rotherham with his current terms up at the end of the month, but seemed an unlikely target for the Blues with the similarly experienced Christophe Berra, Tommy Smith and Luke Chambers already in the squad and youngster Tyrone Mings a further option for manager Mick McCarthy.

Meanwhile, Manchester United keeper Sam Johnstone, recently claimed to be a loan target of Town, Fulham and Birmingham, is reportedly wanted by Watford on a similar basis.

Elsewhere, a number of Championship sides are keen to take young Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong on loan, according to the Newcastle Journal.

Town are said to "have been linked with the England U19 international, although he is not understood to be on their priority list”.

Manager Alan Pardew is set to take the 17-year-old on the club’s pre-season trip to New Zealand before assessing whether to loan him out or keep him at St James’ Park.

The 5ft 8in tall frontman, who is said to be similar in style to Wayne Rooney, made four sub appearances for his hometown club last season.
