Tottenham Hotspur could play home games at Portman Road while their new ground is under construction, according to a report.
It's understood that the North Londoners will be unable to play at their current White Hart Lane home during the 2016/17 campaign while their new 56,000-seater stadium is completed and therefore are looking at alternative ‘home’ grounds.
Wembley, the Olympic Stadium and the MK Dons’ stadium:mk have previously been mentioned as potential alternatives and the Evening Standard reports that Portman Road and Brighton’s Amex Stadium are now also viewed as possible venues for ‘home’ matches, although it’s stressed that the plans are in their early stages.
Wembley is understood to be Spurs’ preferred choice for all their games, however, playing some there and others elsewhere is reportedly seen as an alternative option.
Spurs are yet to gain control of all the land on which the new stadium will be built and are waiting on a Compulsory Purchase Order, which could potentially lead to legal action and delay the ground’s construction. They currently hope to start the 2017/18 campaign at the new stadium.
