A report in the Irish media is linking the Blues with a move for Derby County striker Conor Sammon, who was previously mentioned in connection with Town in January.
The Irish Daily Star claims the 27-year-old is amongst Mick McCarthy’s targets, although admits that the frontman’s wages, claimed to be around €20,000 (around £16,000) a week, well above the levels Town are currently paying, would be something of a stumbling block.
Sammon, who earlier in the summer was linked with a reunion with former Derby boss Nigel Clough at Sheffield United, is contracted to the Rams for another two years and would presumably also cost a fee, something Town are unlikely to pay this summer unless there is a significant sale.
The Dubliner played youth football with local side Cherry Orchard, then moved on to UCD, Derry City, Kilmarnock and then Wigan before joining Derby for £1.2 million in the summer of 2012.
Since then Sammon, who has won nine full Ireland caps, has made 49 starts and 40 sub appearances for the Rams, scoring 13 goals.
