Boss Mick McCarthy is prepared to play a waiting game to see which promising Premier League youngsters become available for loan later in the summer.
McCarthy says he’ll set aside some of his summer budget for loans as and when they become available: "I want to keep our powder dry a little bit because there might be something come up that we can do and if we’ve done all our work and all our business and then we can’t do it, we’d be rueing the fact.”
He says Premier League managers will take their promising youngsters away on their pre-season tours with some of their star names taking a break after the World Cup and then make decisions on whether they want to send them out on loan later on down the line.
He added: "Players who have played in the World Cup will be getting a rest and, a bit like me with Freddie Veseli, I’ll use him now and then if I don’t need him then I’ll let him go out on loan. Likewise with anyone else where that might be the case.”
