An Ipswich Town Legends and Academy Coaches team is taking on an Ipswich Exiles Past and Present XI in a benefit match for Exiles founder Eric Dickerson at Ipswich Wanderers’ Humber Doucy Lane ground on Sunday (KO 2.30pm).
Simon Edwards, SIL club Exiles’ youth section secretary and U13s coach, told TWTD: "Eric Dickerson is ‘Mr Exiles’ he helped form Ipswich Exiles back in 1958 and has been the main man behind the club since then, giving over 55 years service to the club and the leagues it has played in.
"Earlier this year Eric suffered a severe stroke and still needs round the clock care so the benefit match has been arranged with all the proceeds from the day being presented to Diana, Eric's wife to either donate to their chosen charity or to use to assist in the cost of treating Eric while he recovers from his stroke.
"Eric has given so much to local football in over 55 years and now it is our turn to give something back to Eric and his family by supporting this event.
"The names being rumoured to be taking part for the Ipswich Legends team include Kieron Dyer, Titus Bramble and James Scowcroft, plus a host of ex-Town pros and current academy coaches, with possibly an appearance from Town assistant boss Terry Connor too.”
Admission is £3 for adults and free for under-16s. There will also be a raffle, an auction, a bar and other fundraising activities.
