Henshall Out to Add More Goals to His Game - Ipswich Town News

Town new boy Alex Henshall has revealed that manager Mick McCarthy and right-hand man Terry Connor are putting in a lot of effort on the training ground in the hope that he can get among the goals in the months ahead.

Henshall said: "When I do score they tend to be wonder goals. I don’t really score that many tap-ins and the one I got at Gillingham in pre-season was probably my first in a couple of years. It’s one of those things I need to get into my game.

"The gaffer and TC want me to push into the back post area so that I can get the knock-downs, so that’s another thing I am working on.

"The main thing is getting stuck in and trying to get as much game time as I can. Goals are a bonus for me because I’ve always created more than I’ve scored.

"I’m looking to provide some creativity from out wide to provide chances for the likes of David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy. If I can help to set things up for them I will be delighted.

"I like to get down the line and I’m not really one who comes inside. I could hear the gaffer shouting at me on Tuesday night at Crawley, telling me to stay inside.

"I was getting a bit confused by that because I’ve never played there before. But when I spoke to him afterwards I understood more about how and where he wants me to play.

"This is the hardest pre-season I have ever had. At Manchester City we got straight into things like ball-work and possession but when I came back here it was all about running and working hard. It’s a big difference but as a result I think I’m a lot fitter than I was before.”
