Sammon to Make Ipswich His Home - Ipswich Town News

Loan signing Conor Sammon is determined to give himself the best possible chance of making an impact at Portman Road.

Because he is here for the duration of the new campaign the Derby striker has no intention of commuting back to the Midlands at regular intervals.

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international said: "It is really important to me that I have come to Ipswich on a long-term loan.

"I’ve never experienced a loan before in my career — this is my first — but any time I’ve looked at it or heard about it I’ve always thought it would be difficult to join for a month or on a three-month basis.

"Obviously it depends on people’s circumstances but it’s brilliant from my point of view to know that I’m here for the season.

"I can move here, me and my missus can try to settle down in a place here and really make Ipswich my home for the next 12 months and, who knows, maybe longer.”

Dublin-born Sammon, who has won nine senior caps, played his first competitive football of the season when he appeared as a 70th minute replacement for David McGoldrick in Town’s narrow 1-0 defeat at Reading on Saturday.

He added: "That’s most important, to get stuck into games. The Championship is an amazing league, where you have so many games. I know the lads have only been back for three games but they played the opening Saturday, then Tuesday when it went to extra time and again on Saturday.

"Now it’s Tuesday again and the games come thick and fast. From my point of view it was great to get my debut.

"Unfortunately we didn’t get the result that I felt we deserved — I thought we definitely deserved at least a draw the way the lads played. Now we look forward to another tough game against Birmingham and hopefully I can play some part as well.”

Meanwhile, Carlisle have confirmed Jack Marriott’s one-month loan at Brunton Park, manager Graham Kavanagh revealing that Peterborough United had joined the Cumbrians and Cheltenham Town in targeting the 19-year-old Blues frontman.
