Murphy and Sammon in Ireland Squad - Ipswich Town News

Strikers Daryl Murphy and Conor Sammon have been named in a 36-man provisional Republic of Ireland squad for games against Oman and Georgia next month.

Ireland face Oman in a friendly at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday 3rd September, then start their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a match against Georgia in Tbilisi four days later.

Murphy, 31, was called back into the Ireland squad after almost six years last season and has now won 11 full caps without scoring, while 27-year-old Sammon, who joined the Blues on loan from Derby last week, has made nine international appearances, also without hitting the net.

There is no place in the squad for fellow frontman David McGoldrick, whose qualification for Ireland was confirmed earlier in the year and who is keen to play for Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane’s side.

There's also no recall for Stephen Hunt - who returned to action in Town's U21s on Tuesday after a calf injury - but former Blues Damien Delaney and Jon Walters are named.
