Boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that Crystal Palace target Tyrone Mings will be offered a new contract. Yesterday, the Blues turned down a £2.5 million offer from the Eagles for the 21-year-old left-back.
Mings, who joined the Blues from non-league Chippenham Town in December 2012, is currently contracted until the summer of 2015 with the club having an option for a further season.
"We have discussed the possibility, rather the certainty should I say, of giving Tyrone a new contract, and that will be the case,” McCarthy told the club site.
"That is the reward for getting in the team and doing well. Neither Marcus, nor I wanted him to go. We want him here for the long term.
"I want to keep my best players. I want to keep the young, exciting players and Ty is one of them.
"When you look at Saturday and see Tyrone and Alex Henshall working really well down the left side, that is a really exciting partnership if we can get them playing like that every week.”
