Hewitt Set For Cap - Ipswich Town News

Right-back Elliott Hewitt is set to win his 10th U21 cap when the Welsh youngsters take on Finland in Turku in their penultimate Euro 2015 qualifier later this afternoon.

Geraint Williams’s side, who are currently fourth in their group and out of running for qualification, subsequently face Lithuania in their final match in Alytus on Tuesday.

The only other member of the first-team squad away on international duty at present is Daryl Murphy, whose Republic of Ireland team play Georgia in Tbilisi in their opening Euro 2016 qualifying game on Sunday.

Murphy won his 12th cap as a late sub in Wednesday’s 2-0 friendly victory against Oman in Dublin.

Fellow frontman Conor Sammon was included in the provisional 36-man squad for the two games, but wasn't included against Oman and is not in the 23-man party which flew out to Georgia this morning, however, he remains on standby.

Earlier in the week, Christophe Berra withdrew from the Scotland squad facing Germany in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday, due to a knee injury.

Meanwhile, former Blues midfielder Conor Hourihane has been named the League One Player of the Month for August.

The 23-year-old Irishman, who spent a year with the Blues without making a senior appearance having signed on a free transfer from Sunderland in July 2010, scored three goals in his first five league games for Barnsley after joining the Tykes from Plymouth in the summer.
