Everton’s Aiden McGeady netted both Irish goals, the winner coming in the game’s final minute.
Elsewhere, ex-Blue Tamas Priskin scored the Hungary goal as Northern Ireland - including his former team-mate Gareth McAuley - came from behind to win 2-1 in the closing minutes in Budapest.
Meanwhile, Town’s U21s are in action away against Leeds United on Monday afternoon (KO 1pm).
