Mings and Berra Should Be Fine to Face Brighton - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy expects defenders Tyrone Mings and Christophe Berra to be fine for Tuesday’s home game against Brighton despite suffering niggles during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Millwall.

Mings was replaced in the 71st minute with a stiff back but McCarthy says he’ll be OK to face the Seagulls.

"He’s fine, he was much happier yesterday,” the Blues boss said. "He jarred himself as he crossed the ball and it went into spasm. But he got treatment early enough and I spoke to him just now and he’s fine.”

Centre-half Berra missed Scotland’s recent game against Germany due to a knee problem, but it’s an ankle injury which has been more of a concern since Saturday.

"His knee’s fine, it’s his ankle that’s bothering him,” McCarthy added. "He got a bit of treatment on the pitch on Saturday.

"He’s all right, I’ve seen him. I’ve just been round the lads who had little knocks and bumps and bruises and he says he’ll be fine and if he says that I believe him, he’s OK.”

Returning wingers Cameron Stewart and Stephen Hunt are expected to feature for the U21s at Charlton this afternoon (KO 2pm) and won’t be involved tomorrow, but other than those two McCarthy has a full squad from which to pick his 18.

As is often the case when the Blues have two games in quick succession, the squad underwent cryotherapy in a portable facility parked in the Playford Road car park prior to training this morning.

This sees them enter a chamber at temperatures down to -130°C for around two minutes while wearing nothing other than shorts, protection against frostbite on their knees and elbows, gloves, goggles and a hat.

The process removes lactic acid and prevents muscle damage, thereby aiding recovery.
