Bishop's Impact No Surprise to Tabb - Ipswich Town News

Jay Tabb has sung the praises of young midfielder Teddy Bishop, who has made a huge impression since breaking into the side at Derby at the end of last month.

The 18-year-old kept his place for the home victories over Millwall and Brighton and is likely to start again at Wigan on Monday.

Bishop’s impact at first team level has not come as a surprise to the experienced Tabb, who said: "We got to know Teddy when he was running rings round us in training.

"He was something different and it’s nice to see young players being given a chance. If you are good enough the manager here will give you a chance and that’s what has happened with Bish.

"He travelled up to Derby and he was probably going to be on the bench. But when Cole Skuse got ill he was straight into the team and all the players were delighted for him, not only that he had been given a chance but to see how he took it as well.

"You could train well and get in the team but Ted also made a real impact, so much so that he has kept his place and rightly so.

"As soon as you saw him in training you knew he had something special. He’s got the ability but he also has a great attitude. He’s very modest and he just seems delighted to be training and playing in the first team.

"He’s not loud, he just comes in and does his job, listens to what we’ve got to say to him and gets on with it. He’s a pleasure to have around.

"I honestly can’t believe how well he has taken to it. We’ve seen quite a lot of him because he’s been training with us for the last year and a half and you could always tell he was quite special and had a lot of talent.

"But to then go out and actually do it at Championship level is something totally different and he has done that so well.

"It doesn’t get much tougher in the Championship than a debut away at Derby. He’s now played three games in a row and we’ve taken seven points so that’s great for him as well.

"The manager has shown great faith in him by playing him on both Saturday and Tuesday. He played a part in the first goal against Millwall and I believe he would probably have scored himself if he hadn’t been brought down on the edge of the box.

"He’s a good talent to have and for us senior lads it’s nice to play with the younger players and see them come in and also do well.

"We’ve all been there ourselves, making our debuts and establishing ourselves in the team, so any advice he needs we’re all helping him out.

"We chat to him but he’s such a level-headed lad and a really nice guy. He’s a good footballer as well and it all bodes really well for his future.”
