Manager Mick McCarthy hailed Monday’s 2-1 win at Wigan as one of the best away performances of his time in charge of the Blues. Luke Hyam and Conor Sammon were on target for Town in the live Sky game with Martyn Waghorn pulling one back late on for the Latics.
"I would say so,” McCarthy said afterwards. "Probably the best one was at Birmingham in my first game. That was a win, I’m not sure how we played but it was a well-needed victory.
"[Monday] was a really solid performance. There’ll be a lot of talk about the last 10 minutes when they’ve had a bit, but the reality is that we could have won by more.”
Town's victory at the DW Stadium - their first on their travels this season and their first ever away at Wigan - took their current run to three wins on the trot for the first time since they beat Charlton away and Blackburn and Huddersfield at home in November and December last year.
The Blues, whose starting line-up on Monday cost only the £10,000 paid to Chippenham for Tyrone Mings, last won four in a row in January and February 2012 when West Ham were thrashed 5-1 at Portman Road and then Coventry and Portsmouth were beaten away and Cardiff were vanquished at home.
Town, who are up to seventh in the Championship, will be looking to equal that streak when they face 19th-placed Rotherham United at Portman Road on Saturday, a game which McCarthy warns won’t be easy.
"The hardest game of the lot will be Rotherham at home on Saturday when everybody expects us to win. That’s sod’s law.
"But it’s a nice expectancy, it’s better than everyone expecting us to get beaten.”
On-loan Blues duo Paul Taylor and Anthony Wordsworth are ineligible against their parent club on Saturday.
Meanwhile, winger Stephen Hunt's wife Joanne gave birth to a daughter, Arabella, at Wexford Hospital on Tuesday evening.
