Parr Out to Keep Up Unbeaten Record - Ipswich Town News

Town new boy Jonny Parr has emerged as the team’s lucky mascot with a draw followed by three successive wins in his first four outings for the club.

The Norwegian international was ruled out by injury for the big kick-off but after an impressive debut in a 1-1 draw at Derby he has caught the eye as Mick McCarthy’s men have overcome Millwall, Brighton and Wigan to climb up to seventh place in the Championship table.

Parr, 25, even weighed in with his first goal for Town, the opener in the 2-0 home triumph over Brighton, to make it an encouraging start after he only managed to net twice in his three seasons with previous club Crystal Palace, where he was voted the fans’ Player of the Year in 2012.

He said: "I haven’t lost yet so I hope to keep that going. I’m enjoying playing and we’ve done really well the last couple of weeks. Hopefully we can push on and use the momentum we have built up.

"It was very frustrating to be injured and miss the start of the season. When you come into a new club you want to hit the ground running and just be ready to play.

"But unfortunately I got a little injury that kept me out for the first two games and then I was on the bench for one or two before I got into the team.

"But that’s how it is — you get injuries sometimes and you just have to work hard. I knew that if I did that I would get my chance and then it’s all about taking that chance when you get it. It’s been four good games and 10 points.”

Asked if he was concerned about being kept waiting for his debut he replied: "It’s healthy when you have good competition in any team. You just have to be patient and sometimes you get your chance or, if the team is doing well, it takes a bit longer. You just have to do the best you can when you get in because you want to keep that place.”

Parr has plenty of sympathy for fellow newcomer Cameron Stewart, who suffered a fractured jaw in pre-season and was crocked again in his comeback game for the U21 side, which means he has yet to appear at first team level in the current campaign.

Parr added: "It is difficult, especially coming to a new club. You want to show what you can do and Cameron has been very unlucky with his fractured jaw and a couple of different injuries, meaning he isn’t quite match-fit yet.

"Hopefully his injury problems are in the past now and he can regain his fitness and be involved. There’s a great spirit around the club so I think he is benefiting from that, even though he is out injured.

"Everyone is supporting him because we need all the players we have. It’s going to be a long season with a lot of games so we want to have everyone fit and ready to battle for a place in the first team.”
