Town boss Mick McCarthy says his September Championship Manager of the Month award was not just a result of his efforts but those of everyone at the club.
McCarthy and Player of the Month Tyrone Mings were handed their awards by managing director Ian Milne earlier today having been away from the club when they were announced last week.
The Blues took 13 points from 15 during September and climbed from 19th to fifth in the table before slipping back to sixth ahead of the international break.
"It’s a nice award to accept on behalf of everyone at the club, because it’s a joint effort,” McCarthy told the club site.
"The lads have done their part by winning games on the pitch, but it’s that back up to the team with the likes of TC, Andy Liddell, Malcolm Webster, Matt Byard - everyone plays their part and you need that togetherness running through the club, which we have here.
"We’ve played well over the last seven games or so and it’s nice to be rewarded. I’m pleased to pick the award up but it really is for everyone, as we all play our part. It’s been a good month and let’s hope for more of the same going forward.”
Meanwhile, a Town U21 team drew 2-2 with Southend in this afternoon’s behind-closed-doors friendly at Playford Road with Darren Ambrose and Kevin Bru on the scoresheet. Will Atkinson scored both goals for what was a full strength Shrimpers side.
An U17 team was also in action at Playford Road and beat Charlton 1-0 with Ronaldo Jones, who scored for the U18s on Saturday, again on target.
