Six-goal top scorer Daryl Murphy is set to miss Saturday’s home game against Blackburn Rovers but manager Mick McCarthy hopes Jonny Williams will be fit enough to be involved. However, midfielders Teddy Bishop and Luke Hyam are both sidelined.
Murphy picked up an achilles problem while away with the Republic of Ireland and although it is improving McCarthy says he’ll not be ready for Saturday. Williams suffered an ankle injury while with Wales.
"Murph’s struggling,” the Town boss said. "I’m hoping Jonny will be OK, I’ll leave it until tomorrow. He did a bit today and we’re just hoping there’s no reaction from it.”
McCarthy hopes Murphy will be fit for Tuesday’s game at Cardiff: "I’m very hopeful, he’s made a big improvement from when he came back. There’s no chance I’m going to risk him.
"It’s an achilles injury and if you start getting a niggle in the achilles that can go on for weeks and it takes some getting shot of.
"It’s the first injury, we’ll settle it down, make sure it’s fine and he’ll play when it’s ready, hopefully that’s Tuesday.”
As for Bishop and Hyam, he added: "Teddy Bishop’s been poorly all week, as he tweeted and he’s been tweeted from me for doing it!
"Luke Hyam’s still unavailable [with the hip flexor injury which forced him off at Nottingham Forest], but Christophe Berra’s come back [from international duty with Scotland] and he’s OK.”
