Good Move for Omar - Ipswich Town News

Boss Mick McCarthy says first-year pro Omar Sowunmi will find the Vanarama Conference a tough league having joined Braintree on a one-month youth loan yesterday. The 6ft 5in tall centre-half is expected to make his debut for the Iron at Altrincham today.

"It’s a good move for him, if he gets the games. I think they intend playing him,” the Blues manager said. "It’ll be tough for him, that’s a competitive league he’ll be playing in.”

The 18-year-old, who signed a one-year deal in the summer, will still be permitted to play games for Town's U21s while with the Iron.

McCarthy added: "He’s learning the game, Omar. The U21s have started the season all right, they’ve been far better because we tried to keep a squad together that Sparky [coach Mark Kennedy] could train as a full squad and they’ve all benefited from it.”
