Colchester Want to Extend Hewitt Loan - Ipswich Town News

Colchester United boss Tony Humes says he’d like to extend Blues right-back Elliott Hewitt’s loan when his current spell is up on November 2nd.

Hewitt, 20, has made three starts since joining the League One side at the start of October and has impressed one-time Town defender Humes.

"We’ve known Elliott for two or three years through the academy system and we’ve always liked him as a player,” he told the Colchester Gazette.

"He fits how we try and play the game and it’s an opportunity for him to get some first-team football. It benefits Ipswich but it also benefits us.

"I think it’s something that we can take forward, depending on Ipswich and what decision they make.

"I’ll speak to Mick in the next couple of weeks, to see what the situation is with them. But if we can extend it, we’ll be looking into doing that.”

Colchester and Hewitt face Chesterfield at home this evening and then games at Swindon and against Port Vale at the Weston Homes Community Stadium before the end of the current loan.

The Wales U21 international started the season in the Town side, although in a less familiar right midfield role, but his only involvement since the Reading match on August 16th was as a sub in the 2-0 home victory over Rotherham at the end of last month.

Ipswich Town 1-1 Watford - Match Report
Town spurned a succession of second-half chances as they drew 1-1 with Watford at Portman Road. Imran Louza gave the Hornets the lead in the 16th minute but the Blues hit back through Jaden Philogene five minutes later. While chances had been few and far between in the first half, Town had plenty in a second period they dominated but failed to find what would have been a deserved winner.
