Murphy: Important to Bounce Back - Ipswich Town News

Town striker Daryl Murphy has stressed the importance of bouncing back from the midweek defeat at Cardiff with a win over Huddersfield at Portman Road tomorrow.

The club’s seven-goal leading marksman opened the scoring in Wales but the Bluebirds replied three times to end Town’s unbeaten eight-game run, meaning Mick McCarthy’s men will be seeking their first win in five outings against the in-form Terriers.

Murphy looked back on Tuesday’s setback and said: "We have watched the video of the full game and it’s really disappointing because I think it was there for the taking after we went ahead.

"I thought we were good in the first half — not brilliant but they weren’t posing us any threats.

"They scored a screamer but we could have dealt with it better. Watching it back, the ball came up to me and I could have held it up a bit better.

"They went down, got a corner and they ended up scoring from it. That’s disappointing because I think we’ve been good at that all season.

"To concede the other two goals was sloppy from us and I just don’t think we were good enough in the second half. We have to look at ourselves for that and hopefully put it right Saturday.

"We want to make it right by going out and picking up three points as soon as we can.”

Events in the Welsh capital saw Town drop down to ninth place in the Championship table but they are a mere two points adrift of a top-six slot, although Huddersfield’s recent five-game unbeaten run under new boss Chris Powell has not gone unnoticed by the Irish striker.

Murphy added: "Huddersfield are a good side and we know they will come here looking to play and trying to win as well. We will just have to try to make sure that we’re on our game.

"We must forget about Cardiff — it’s gone now — and disappointed as we are we must look forward to Saturday and try to put things right.

"The gaffer is brilliant and has been brilliant with us since he came in. The lads see it every day, how good a manager he is, and obviously he’ll be as disappointed as all of us. But Saturday is our chance to put it right.”

Murphy missed last Saturday’s home draw with an achilles injury sustained while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland and there was no adverse reaction following the game at Cardiff.

He said: "Even the physios were surprised by that and they are calling me Wolverine because of my healing powers. I’ve been blessed like that in the past.

"Every time I’ve picked up a niggle it’s gone away quite quickly and credit to the physios here who have done such a good job.

"They kept me wrapped up all last week and just made sure it was right, and that I didn’t feel anything the other night was a good sign.”
