Dozzell in England Squad - Ipswich Town News

Academy schoolboy Andre Dozzell has been named in the England U16 squad for the Sky Sports Victory Shield game against Northern Ireland in Dungannon on Friday 7th November.

Dozzell, 15, is not involved in Friday’s opening game in Wales with the squad changing for each of the matches and a large number of players involved.

The midfielder is following in his father Jason’s footsteps, the former Blue having won U16 caps in addition to playing for England at U21 level.

Dozzell senior, now a coach at the academy, says Andre, who has played for Town’s U18s and U16s this season and will start a full-time scholarship next summer, thoroughly deserves the call.

"I’m proud and absolutely delighted for him,” he told TWTD. "It’s a start, he’s got to keep working hard.

"The easy bit’s getting there, the hardest bit’s staying there. He’s just got to do what he’s been doing and what’s got him there.”

He says Andre shows the right attitude and has a lot of potential: "He’ll be better than me, I think. But there are a lot of U16 kids who don’t really go on and make it. He can only keep doing what he’s been doing.”

Jason missed Andre’s first appearance for an England U16s side when he captained them to a 4-3 victory over Belgium in a two-hour long friendly as he was on holiday, but says he’ll be making the trip to Northern Ireland.

"I’m going, I’m flying over to watch him,” he said. "I’m really looking forward to it. He deserves it because he’s been working hard.”

Meanwhile, former Town chief executive Simon Clegg is amongst those to have been mentioned as a potential successor to Alex Horne, who is quitting as the FA's chief executive in January.

Clegg is currently the chief operating officer of the inaugural European Games, which will be held in Baku next summer.

Also reported to be potential candidates are ex-Southampton executive chairman Nicola Cortese and former Millwall chair and first female FA board member Heather Rabbatts.
