Hunt: There's Still a Buzz - Ipswich Town News

Stephen Hunt has insisted there is still a positive vibe at Town despite the fact that Mick McCarthy’s team take on rock-bottom Blackpool this weekend seeking their first win in six games.

Of course, that particular statistic only tells part of the story of the team’s recent run and it would be equally accurate to say they have been beaten just once in their last 10 Championship outings.

However, the fact that in each of their last four games they have failed to take advantage of going ahead each time, pocketing just three points from a possible 12, has cost Town valuable ground in the quest for an automatic promotion, or at least a play-off, place.

Hunt said: "There is still a buzz but frustrating is the word. We expected to be higher up the table than where we are now, plus the goals we have given away have been really frustrating. Hopefully we can clean our act up when it comes to giving away silly goals and crack on.

"Momentum, I suppose, is a big word in this league and while we have only been beaten once in 10 games we are 10th so we need to try to get four or five wins in a row and see where that takes us.

"Going in front and not winning is a bit like what happened at times last year and we have to start learning quickly if we want to be in the top six or even the top two. If only we could get three or four points clear of sixth place.

"Then even if we did lose we would not drop out of the top six, which would give us the confidence to play with no pressure. Then you might see a different Ipswich.

"But the Championship is the same every year and it’s just the way it is in this league. I’ve had six years in the Premier League and two or three in the Championship, and it’s hard to know what way to take it.

"You have to keep your head down and be up for every game because each one is a challenge, physically and mentally. If you get that right you’ll be fine.”

While Hunt has finally featured this season Town fans are still waiting to see fellow winger Cameron Stewart, who was signed on a free transfer after leaving Hull in the summer.

But Hunt laughed: "He plays in my position and I’ve got to worry about myself. I see him every day and he’s training hard and working hard. Everyone wants everyone else to do well but I’ve got to concentrate on my own job.

"There is plenty of competition for places and it’s all related to what formation we play and how we play. If it’s 4-4-2 I’m in a better position to play than some others but it would also suit Cameron and Alex Henshall better.

"It all depends what the gaffer goes with. I’m not saying we can’t play in a three in midfield but there are definitely formations that suit some people better than others.”
