Hewitt's Month With U's Ends With Defeat - Ipswich Town News

Elliott Hewitt’s one-month loan with Colchester came to an end following yesterday’s 2-1 home defeat to Port Vale in League One.

Speaking after Town’s victory at Blackpool, Blues boss Mick McCarthy said he could opt not to extend the Wales U21 international's spell with the U's with first-choice right-back Jonny Parr having missed the trip to Bloomfield Road with a groin injury.

"Possibly,” he said. "I haven’t given that too much thought. I’ll give it thought in the week. I’ve spoken to Tony Humes, I told him if I need him, I’ll bring him back. If I don’t, I won’t.”

Colchester are keen to keep the 20-year-old, who has made six appearances during his month with the North Essex side. If Town do extend his spell the former Macclesfield man will be available for recall at 24 hours' notice.

Freddie Veseli was amongst the unused subs for Vale at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Elsewhere, Paul Taylor was subbed at half-time as Rotherham lost 3-0 at home to Middlesbrough in the Championship. Anthony Wordsworth wasn’t in the 18.

Frank Nouble played the full 90 minutes as Coventry drew 2-2 at Leyton Orient in League One.

In the Vanarama Conference, Jack Marriott came on in the 53rd minute for Woking as they drew 0-0 at Braintree, for whom Town first-year pro centre-half Omar Sowunmi played the full 90 minutes.

Young midfielder Jack Willbye played the first 78 minutes of Bury Town’s 3-1 home defeat to Hendon in the FA Trophy first round.
