Town boss Mick McCarthy hasn’t ruled out using attack-minded central midfield pair Jonny Williams and Teddy Bishop in tandem at some point with the duo yet to appear in the same Blues XI.
That’s unlikely to be the case at the weekend when Watford visit Portman Road with Bishop, 18, again expected to be absent due to his groin injury, but 21-year-old Williams could return from his calf problem against the Hornets.
But looking further ahead, McCarthy said: "I would never say never to that because you get as many good players as you can in, but you’ve got to have all the ones that do all those horrible, messy jobs as well.
"You can’t just put a team out of all the best ‘footballers’. That might sound barmy to anybody reading that.
"But what is the best ‘footballer’?” he contemplated. "I think Christophe Berra’s one of our best footballers and so is Chambo because they’re good defenders, they’re footballers and they do a job.
"Teddy went and played wide right on Saturday at Blackpool and did it comfortably. I think he could play anywhere along that front six. He’s just a good footballer, a bit like Jonny Williams.”
Meanwhile, Saturday’s opponents Watford have injury concerns regarding on-loan Norwich City defender Sebastien Bassong and midfielder Gianni Munari, who missed Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Birmingham due to calf and groin problems respectively.
Definitely out are Gabriele Angella (ankle), Almen Abdi (shoulder) and Gabriel Tamas (knee).
