On-loan striker Frank Nouble came off the bench to score a brilliant goal as Coventry beat Plymouth 2-0 at the Ricoh Arena to claim a place in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area semi-final.
Nouble, who has now scored four goals in eight games for the Sky Blues, came off the bench on the hour and with five minutes remaining sealed the victory with what sounds a fantastic goal, judging by the Coventry official website’s report: "He picked the ball up on the halfway line, surged past three defenders and smashed an exquisite left-footed drive into the top left-hand corner.”
Afterwards, Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley said it was an improved display from Nouble: "The performance was what I expect from Frank Nouble, there is so much potential there. He got his goal from hard work, something which I don’t believe we’ve seen from Frank over the past two weeks.
"His goal was tremendous and that’s what he is capable of, he has so much potential. That’s the frustration I have, the times he’s performed [are the] times he’s worked hard, so I want to see more of that from him."
Elsewhere, Jack Marriott played the first 73 minutes as Woking drew 1-1 with Wrexham - who beat them 3-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend - in the Vanarama Conference Premier.
The 20-year-old has now gone nine games - seven starts and two sub appearances - since scoring the only goal of his latest loan spell with the Cards on his third ‘debut’.
Meanwhile, young central defender Omar Sowunmi has returned to Town having spent the last month on loan at Vanarama Conference Premier side Braintree. The 19-year-old made four starts for the Iron.
