Youth Cup Date Set - Ipswich Town News
Town’s FA Youth Cup third round tie against Colchester United will be played at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Thursday 18th December (KO 7pm).
On Saturday, the U’s came from behind to beat Cheltenham 2-1 at home in their second round tie.
Former Blues defender Wayne Brown is the manager of Colchester’s U18s, one of plenty of current links between the two clubs.
Colchester's first-team boss Tony Humes is a former Town player and academy chief, while his assistant Richard Hall was a coach at Playford Road having been a youth player with the Blues.
One-time Town team-mates John McGreal and Fabian Wilnis are also on the U’s academy staff.
Jason Dozzell and Mick Stockwell, now Town academy coaches, played for the U’s late in their careers, while current Colchester player David Wright was previously a full-back with Town and also now coaches part-time at the Blues academy.
