Strong U21s Side in Cup Action Against Saints - Ipswich Town News
Alex Henshall, Cameron Stewart, Balint Bajner and an unnamed trialist are set to feature in what’s expected to be a strong Town development side facing Southampton in the U21 Premier Cup at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).
The trialist may be Hampton and Richmond left-back George Wells, who has featured in a couple of previous U21 games - including Town’s previous U21 Premier Cup tie - and was invited to spend two weeks training with the Blues.
The round of 32 tie must be decided on the night with extra-time played if the scores are level after 90 minutes and a penalty shoot-out following if required.
Entry is free to season ticket holders with tickets otherwise available on the Cobbold Stand turnstiles at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
Mark Kennedy’s side beat Swansea City 2-1 at home in the previous round with Darren McQueen netting the first and Swans’ defender Curtis Obeng scoring a final minute own goal.

Blackburn Rovers 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match AbandonedTown look set to face a return trip to Blackburn Rovers later in the season after this afternoon’s game was abandoned after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the home side 1-0 up and with the Blues down to 10 men. Jacob Greaves was shown a straight red card four minutes after the break for hauling down Yuki Ohashi, then Rovers skipper Todd Cantwell netted a penalty on 59, but the heavy rain had made the game increasingly farcical the longer it progressed and in the 80th minute referee Stephen Martin took the players off and then 25 minutes later abandoned it entirely.
