Chelsea Youngster Training With Town - Ipswich Town News

Chelsea youngster John Swift has spent the last couple of days training with Town with a view to potentially signing before Thursday’s 5pm emergency loan deadline.

The 19-year-old midfielder has come through the ranks at Chelsea and has won England caps at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels.

Born in Portsmouth, Swift has made one sub appearance for Chelsea and spent time on loan at Rotherham earlier this season, making two starts and two sub appearances.

It’s understood a deal for Swift to join the Blues is not yet done with Football League clubs able to sign players on loan for up to 93 days until 5pm tomorrow.

Manager Mick McCarthy has said that while he wasn’t expecting to make many additions before the deadline, he could bring someone in to replace the injured Jonny Williams.

There is less of a rush regarding trialist Sean St Ledger, who as a free agent could be added to the squad at any point if he impresses during his trial. A short-term deal through to January seems likely.
