New short-term signing Sean St Ledger says he’s aiming to win a longer stay at Portman Road having put pen to paper on a one-month deal this morning. The 29-year-old was a free agent having left Leicester at the end of last season.
"I’m thankful to the manager for giving me a chance,” the Irish international told Ipswich Player.
"I’ve been out of football for quite a while and I’m pretty lucky to join a club that is fourth in the table and have aspirations of getting in the Premier League.
"I’ve been close to coming here before. I spoke to the manager last year about joining but I was in the Leicester team at the time so things didn’t materialise and I would have joined the club when Paul Jewell was manager but one of the players got injured at Leicester so they wouldn’t let me go.
"It’s great to finally be here and I’m relishing the opportunity. I know I have a lot of work to do but I’ve got to try and force my way into the team and show the manager what I can do.
"I’m here for a month at the moment but hopefully I can extend that contract until the end of the season and maybe beyond that. I’m up for that challenge.”
St Ledger played for the U21s in Monday's 1-0 defeat to Southampton and will play for Mark Kennedy's side again at Millwall on Friday.
