McCarthy Sad For Collison That Spell Hasn't Worked Out - Ipswich Town News
Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s sad for midfielder Jack Collison that his spell with the Blues hasn’t worked out. Earlier in the week, the Blues manager revealed that the former West Ham man wouldn’t be kept on once his short-term deal comes to an end later this month.
The 26-year-old has suffered from a succession of injuries while at Portman Road - he is currently sidelined with a knee problem picked up in the U21s - and has been unable to break into the first-team squad.
"I’m very sad for him but it’s what happens,” McCarthy said. "I thought he was really well worth a chance because when he came in he looked the part in training and he’s a great lad to have around the place, a really good pro. But it hasn’t worked out."
He says he’s yet to speak to Darren Ambrose, who like Collison signed a short-term contract in September, regarding his future: "I’ve got to do it soon but I’ve not got round to that yet.”
