McCarthy Unsure of Palace's Plans for Williams - Ipswich Town News

Boss Mick McCarthy says he’s not sure of Crystal Palace’s plans for Jonny Williams, who is close to returning from the groin injury which has sidelined him since the Watford match in early November.

The 21-year-old, who is still officially on loan with the Blues despite going back to the Eagles while he recovered from his injury, recently returned to full training.

His spell is officially up after the Charlton game on December 30th but Palace can recall him at 24 hours’ notice.

"I’m going to put a call in to Neil Warnock,” McCarthy said. "I don’t know what they’ll do with him. I would suspect they will use him.

"They were doing well while he was here, they were having good results, so there was no need. I think they were going to take him back and have a look.

"Whether that’s the case now or not, I saw Neil say he wants a few new faces. I don’t know, but they know there’s a home for him here if they want to loan him out again.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy says he’s not yet spoken to midfielder Darren Ambrose about his future. The 30-year-old is on a short-term deal which is up at the end of the month.

"I’ve just let that run its course,” McCarthy added. "I don’t need to yet. I’ll get the games out of the way first.

"He’s done all right, Darren. He was on the pitch on Saturday, he came on, so he’s contributing. I’ll sit down and talk to him when I’ve got these games out of the way.”
