He is not going to reveal exactly what is said but Town skipper Luke Chambers has provided an insight into the team’s pre-match huddle.
Chambers refuses to take his role as captain too seriously and showed a nice line in self-deprecating humour when he confirmed: "I’m the only one who does any talking. No one else says a word — they just look at me as if to say ‘Shut up you idiot’.
"It’s just nice to get together and it’s really the only time we have a little bit of quiet time before the game. I say a few words, either rubbish or inspirational.
"It’s whatever they want to take from it. The lads always seem to respond really well to me and I’ve been privileged to play with them as captain so far this season.
"Sometimes I’ll think about what I’m going to say, for example if I’ve heard something during the week and I make a mental note of it. It could be anything, maybe what another team’s manager has said or what other people have commented about us.
"It’s generally about what’s been happening in the build-up to the game, whether we have to approach it in a different way and the importance of getting off to a good start.
"Some managers have said things about our style of play but nothing seems to affect the group. I’ve never known so many professionals, regardless of whether they are in the team or out of the team, to be on the same page.
"I don’t know if it’s down to the management having instilled that in them or just the characters we are fortunate to have in the squad.
"Everyone wants to do well and knows the job that is expected of them. If they don’t do it the other lads won’t accept it, nor will the management. If someone says something about us we know what we have got to do to beat teams. They can say what they want but we’ll still send them up the road with nothing.”
Firm words from Chambers but to illustrate his point about the squad he cited the example of how Jonny Parr reacted to his first-team recall against Middlesbrough, replacing infected toe victim Tyrone Mings and delivering a five-star performance.
He added: "Jonny has been brilliant for the last three or four years in the Championship and was Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year a couple of seasons ago.
"He was unlucky not to be in the team but when he played against Middlesbrough on Saturday he showed what a good defender he is.
"Their winger Albert Adomah is a top, top player in this league and has been giving people the run-around lately but they took him off at half-time and Jonny will be very unlucky again if he finds himself out of the team if Mingsy comes back at Brentford on Boxing Day.
"There are a lot of options for us at the minute and as I’ve said before, when someone does step out of the team for whatever reason whoever has come in has done virtually the very same job and we just seem to keep moving forward.”
