McCarthy Not Expecting Williams Return - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he doesn’t expect Crystal Palace to make Jonny Williams available for a further loan. The 21-year-old’s most recent spell with the Blues was officially up after the Charlton game, although the Wales international had been out of action since suffering a groin injury in the Watford match in November.

"I don’t think there’s any chance of that,” McCarthy said. "If [prospective new Palace manager] Alan Pardew was to say to Jonny Williams ‘look, you’re not what I want, I’ll let you go out on loan’ then I think Jonny would be in the phone to us or his agent certainly would.

"But I don’t think that’ll be the case. He was injured so he went back but I think [previous boss] Neil Warnock would have used him once he got fit, and I think he’s probably getting to that level now.

"And I think Alan will want every single player that he’s got and have a look at them, judge them and then decide who is going to play.”

McCarthy says there have been no developments regarding Noel Hunt’s return, the Irishman’s loan spell having come to an end after the Charlton match: "There’s nothing on that at the moment, we took it January 3rd, he can’t play in the cup.

"He’s gone back. I’m just leaving to Hunty, I don’t know what’s going to happen there.”

He says he could look to another striker if an agreement can’t be reached with Leeds to bring Hunt back to Portman Road.

"If we can, if there’s somebody available, of course,” he added. "I don’t know yet if that person will be there.

"But we want to be as strong as we possibly can. Hunty helped us along but that’s for him and Leeds to sort out, there’s no arrangement to do anything there.”
