Midfielder Darren Ambrose has confirmed that he wants to remain with the Blues beyond the end of his short-term deal on January 10th. Manager Mick McCarthy has said he wants to keep the 30-year-old, who scored in yesterday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw at Southampton, the first start of his third spell with the club.
"I've made it clear I want to be back here playing,” Ambrose told Radio Suffolk. "I'm pleased to have made a start and a contribution.
"It was my first game in a long, long time and my legs started to tire. All in all I felt really happy to be out there.
"The manager has called me in and asked me my thoughts. I have no reason to leave whatsoever.
"It's a difficult one, because I haven't played as much as I would have hoped - but the team has been fantastic, so I'm not throwing my arms up and moaning. I want to stay, 100%, there's nowhere else I'm looking to go.”
Having rejoined Town in September, Ambrose says he’s enjoying football again after a frustrating couple of years with Birmingham where he rarely played before moving to Greek side Apollon Smyrni on loan in January.
"It's been a difficult few years, not playing. But I've got the love back now, playing with this team and this manager. It's changed my opinion of football once again and now I love it again.”
The academy product seems set to sign a deal until the end of the season.
Yesterday’s goal was Ambrose’s first for the Blues since Town’s 3-2 victory over Sheffield United at Portman Road in February 2003, two days before the club announced it was going into the period of administration which led to the midfielder’s £1 million sale to Newcastle United just over a month later.
