Midfielder Darren Ambrose has signed a new deal until the end of the season, while Port Vale-bound defender Freddie Veseli has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent and striker Jack Marriott has rejoined Vanarama Conference side Woking on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Ambrose rejoined the Blues for a third spell on a short-term contract until January 10th in September and scored his first Town goal since 2003 in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Southampton in the third round of the FA Cup.
After the game the 30-year-old said that he’s enjoying football again after a frustrating couple of years with Birmingham where he rarely played before moving to Greek side Apollon Smyrni on loan in January.
"It's been a difficult few years, not playing. But I've got the love back now, playing with this team and this manager. It's changed my opinion of football once again and now I love it again.”
Veseli is expected to join Port Vale where he has been on loan on a permanent basis. Talks between Vale and the Blues regarding the 22-year-old, whose contract was due to end in the summer, had been ongoing since before Christmas.
The former Swiss U21 international joined the Blues after a trial in the summer of 2013 after his release by Manchester United, having previously been with Manchester City’s youth set-up.
The right-back or centre-half made only one appearance for Town, last season’s Capital One Cup exit at Stevenage. He spent time on loan at Bury during 2013/14 and joined Vale in the summer with manager Mick McCarthy having said he had no future at Portman Road.
Striker Marriott ended his third loan spell with the Cards by netting in their 1-1 New Year’s Day draw with Eastleigh. Overall, the 20-year-old scored five times in 15 starts and five sub appearances during his latest spell at the Kingfield Stadium.
Speaking just before Christmas, McCarthy said Marriott, whose contract is up in the summer, would benefit from another spell out on loan: "Jack hadn’t been playing regularly at Woking, he’s not had the same degree of success [as he did last season] in terms of scoring goals.
"He needs to get that, he needs to play somewhere regularly and get some goals before he even thinks about getting in my team.”
