Murphy Wins Player of the Month - Ipswich Town News
Town striker Daryl Murphy has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for December.
The Blues frontman netted six goals in five games during the final month of 2014 to take his season’s total to 17.
The 31-year-old beat fellow nominees Bradley Johnson of Norwich, Bolton keeper Andy Lonergan and one-time Town trialist Harry Arter from Bournemouth to carry off the gong.
The Irish international is the second Town player to win the gong this season with Tyrone Mings picking up the award for September, while Murphy's strike partner David McGoldrick won it in October 2013.
Town boss Mick McCarthy was nominated for the Manager of the Month award but lost out to AFC Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe along with Slavisa Jokanovic of Watford and Middlesbrough's Aitor Karanka.
The Blues won four and drew one in the final month of the 2014, climbing to second in the Championship table, but Howe’s table-topping Cherries won all five of their league games, netting five goals against Cardiff and six at Blackpool.
McCarthy, who was also nominated last month, won the September award.
