Berra: We'll Bounce Back - Ipswich Town News

Town centre-half Christophe Berra expects the Blues to bounce back from Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Derby County.

Chris Martin’s 57th minute goal saw the Rams to victory and up to second in the Championship level on points with leaders Bournemouth with the Blues one behind in third.

"There wasn’t much in the game and in the end it was a mistake, which cost us, but that is part and parcel of football,” Berra said.

"We have had a good run with just one loss in 21 before this but we will bounce back. There are a lot more ups and downs to come, hopefully more ups for us.

"We didn’t pass the ball as well as we could have and didn’t create the chances, but that happens. We are all human beings and we have off days. If anything we had the better chances but it’s all about small details.

"There is no way the Southampton game was on our minds. The league is our bread and butter and we were totally focused.

"The FA Cup is great and we are up against Premiership opposition but we want to win this league.

"If you had said at the beginning of the season that we were would be third after 25 games we would have taken your arm off.”

The Scotland international says not too much ought to be read into the result: "This is not even a blip, it is one defeat, a blip would be two or three defeats, no, we are still very much in this.

"No team has the right to win every game, not even Manchester United or Chelsea as had been shown. No, we will look to show consistency and if we do will be fine.

"We didn’t play our best but nor did Derby, it was just one of those days. The goal wasn’t the best but the striker took his chance when it came.”

Derby skipper Richard Keogh felt his team had to dig deep to beat the Blues: "It was two good teams going toe to toe. It was a big result.

"We have matured as a group, as we have done throughout the season. The games come thick and fast.

"We defended well as a team as we had to against good players like Didzy and Murph. We kept a clean sheet again which was important."

The 28-year-old Ireland international was with Town as a youngster before being released: "I was a schoolboy with Ipswich and I had a really good upbringing here.

"They taught me how to play football the right way and in a way it was good to show a few people what I can do and prove them wrong.

"One man’s trash is another man’s art and I have not looked back since I left here.

"It’s funny how football works, Stoke were here looking at the dome at Ipswich’s training ground and they copied it at their own training ground.

"I was playing in a game against Norwich at the same time. They saw me and I went there. I have won here now with Derby and Coventry.”
