Town Firsts Up for Auction - Ipswich Town News

Two Town firsts are up for auction at Lockdales of Martlesham later this month, the programmes for the Blues’ inaugural game as a professional club and the club’s first ever testimonial.

Town’s opening game as a professional outfit was the August 1936 home Southern League fixture with Tunbridge Wells Rangers, which the Blues won 4-1.

The programme from that game goes under the hammer on January 24th with a catalogue guide price of £90 to £110.

Also amongst a number of other Town programmes and items of memorabilia at the auction is the April 1952 single sheet programme for the joint-benefit match for Tommy Parker and Harry Baird.

This was the first ever testimonial game staged by the Blues when a Town side took on a Select XI. This rare piece of Portman Road memorabilia has a £50 to £60 catalogue guide price.

Auction manager James Sadler, who is a Blues season ticket holder, said: "These are historic Town programmes indeed, and there are many more in the auction from many clubs.

"A large collection of old Watford programmes is receiving a great deal of attention in particular.”
