Leeds manager Neil Redfearn says he’d ideally like to keep Town target Billy Sharp at Elland Road.
As TWTD reported last week, Town and Leeds have been in discussions regarding the 28-year-old joining the Blues on loan with a view to a permanent switch in the summer. The size of the fee Town would ultimately pay is understood to be the sticking point.
"Billy Sharp’s a Leeds United player. That’s it,” Redfearn told the Yorkshire Evening Post when asked about Sharp’s situation after the Whites’ 1-1 home draw with Birmingham on Saturday.
"He looked busy and bright. You want to keep your best players and add better players to them. That’s the idea. He came on and gave us momentum.”
Quizzed on whether he would like Sharp, who played the final 27 minutes against Birmingham, to remain at Elland Road, Redfearn added: "Ideally yes.”
However, he admitted he wasn’t sure of the club’s plans for the striker, who signed a two-year contract following his £600,000 move from Southampton last summer: "I wouldn’t know. I can only deal with what’s put in front of me.
"As far as I know, Billy’s a Leeds player and he’s competing for a place up front.”
